Hi I’m Beth, a postpartum Doula based in Norfolk

I’m the heart and hands behind Motherhand Doula. I’m also a mother, Pilates and Yoga teacher, an Integrative Health Coach, and a Massage Therapist. I’m a straight talker who is deeply passionate about holistic postpartum care. My journey into birth and postnatal support isn’t just professional—it’s personal.

When I was preparing for my daughter’s arrival, I thought I had everything figured out. I had read the books, listened to the experts, and crafted my birth plan down to the finest detail. But what I wasn’t prepared for was the fourth trimester—the exhaustion, the healing, the emotional rollercoaster of becoming a mother. I had people offering to help, but I didn’t even know what to ask for. I thought needing support meant I was failing.

Looking back, I now know that postpartum isn’t something we’re meant to ‘power through’ alone. Our nervous system simply isn’t designed that way. It’s a time of deep physical and emotional change that requires care, rest, and community. Western maternal care often overlooks the deep physical and emotional needs of new mothers. We live in a culture that pushes us to ‘bounce back’ instead of honouring recovery.

A mother’s well-being is just as vital as her baby’s. Research shows that adequate postpartum support can protect against mood disorders, ease recovery, and set the foundation for long-term health. Through my work, I help new parents navigate this huge transition with compassion, practical guidance, and a deep respect for their unique journey. Whether it’s emotional reassurance, hands-on support with baby care, meal preparation, or simply holding space for you to rest and recover, I’m here to walk alongside you.

Drawing from my background in movement, holistic health, and therapeutic touch, my approach blends practical support with nurturing care. I integrate breathwork, body awareness, and gentle recovery practices into my doula work, helping you rebuild strength and confidence in your postpartum body. My goal is to help you feel held, heard, and empowered—so you can step into motherhood feeling supported, not overwhelmed.

Doulas today continue this legacy of companionship and support. The use of the word “doula” is newer, but the concept of birth work–and of being present for fellow community members in birth–is a longstanding shared cultural practice, rooted deep in human histories
